We want to recognize the hard work it takes to be an athlete. By participating in S.T.A.R.S., you will gain helpful information to take your on-ice performance to an even higher level in 2014. Online registration is now open (visit www.starscombine.org to register) and help us win the registration contest to bring Tanith Belbin or Rockne Brubaker to our S.T.A.R.S. Combine!
S.T.A.R.S. (Standardized Testing of Athleticism to Recognize Skaters) is a fun, one day off-ice testing event designed to provide skaters and coaches with specific information about the athletic abilities specifically related to the skaters’ on-ice skills. The purpose of S.T.A.R.S. is to help you train your athleticism ahead of your skills curve and also to help your body be as injury resistant as possible.
The S.T.A.R.S. combine consists of 15 tests in three areas:
1) Agility/Balance/Coordination;
2) Strength and Power;
3) Flexibility
The test allows athletes to compare their results with others of the same skating level, age, and gender across the country. Individual data is never shared. All S.T.A.R.S. combines will have an interactive seminar in addition to the off-ice testing. This year’s seminar topic is “Training, Overtraining and Recovery.”
To participate athletes must:
• Be six years of age at the date of the combine
• Have passed their Pre-Preliminary Moves in the Field
• Must bring a signed Medical Clearance Form
More information about S.T.A.R.S., including a complete list of participating cities can
be found at www.starscombine.org.
REGISTRATION CONTESTS!
The first three S.T.A.R.S. locations to reach 100 registered athletes will receive a visit from Tanith Belbin or Rockne Brubaker, who will assist with the seminar and have extra time for questions as well as photo and autograph opportunities.
The 10 coaches with the most registered athletes will receive an exercise prize package, including useful and fun equipment.
Athletes who have participated previously in S.T.A.R.S. will receive a discount code to save $5 off this year’s registration — watch for a separate email from U.S. Figure Skating with the discount code.
We hope to see you there!
